I'm trying to run a multimonitor setup (SZ + Viewsonic LCD) when at home, and a single-monitor setup (SZ only), when on the road.

The problem is that everytime I logoff/hibernate from my multimonitor setup and go on the road using my SZ, once I return home, the display doesn't go back to the multimonitor setup. This is understandable, but what I'd like to do is have an easy way to switch back to multimonitor setup.

I've tried saving the nvidia profile but the only way to load that profile seems to be through the control panel. It gets annoying when I have to do it 2 or 3 times a day.

So, is there an easier/faster way to do this other than through the nVidia Control Panel or the Display properties? Does anyone know if nView will work with the SZ series?

Not too sure if this works, but try Function + F7.

Its not much different but if you right click on your desktop, click on properties, click on the settings tab, drag your second monitor to the correct position and check the extend desktop and use as primary monitor boxes then apply or ok. Hmm, does not sound quicker.

I have similar problems, but using the Docking Station. I havent been able to find a solution. You MAY wish to try some 3rd party drivers from laptopvideo2go.com (I think thats it anyway) but these are desktop drivers modified to work on nvida laptop cards.

Im not a home at the moment but as somebody suggested, try this. Before you unplug the LCD moniter, hit **** F7. I seems to help in saving some setings if I set it to single moniter mode before I undock it. All I have to do it set it to dual moniter when I plug it back in and it automatically goes to its dual moniter settings.

thanks for the tip, as i was wondering whether a docking station would solve this problem. I'll try Fn+F7 next time.

I'd previously tried connecting the monitor and then using Fn+F7 but this resulted in the laptop lcd being at the right res, but the Viewsonic LCD being at the wrong res (it was trying use 1280x800 even though it's native res is 1680x1050).

    a little update.

Fn+F7 doesn't work for the monitor i'm using.

When I have the mutltimonitor setup working, and press Fn+F7, i get a dialog warning box that reads "Not available with current settings." The title bar of the dialog box reads "VAIO Event Service."

In this setup, i'm using the SZ lcd as my primary at 1280x800, and the Viewsonic as a secondary at 1680x1050. Might be due to the widescreen external lcd?

    Anyone have any ideas?

    a final update.

Looks like the SZ doesn't support nView, which is a shame, because at this price it should be supported out of the box.

Since the built-in Fn+F7 functionality doesn't work to enable the extended desktop mode (it only mirrors the laptop display on an external monitor), third-party software is required.

I tried Multires, which supports but doesn't enable the extended desktop either, it only works to change the display-res/colour-depth/refresh.

Realtimesoft's "Ultramon" does the trick nicely. It's trialware, but well worth putting on your SZ if you use multiple monitors and have to switch between Laptop-only and Laptop+LCD often. You can save profiles and have desktop/quicklaunch shortcuts to enable the different profiles you create.

There are other features as well, but the above was the main objective for me (and this thread). Anyways, thought i'd mention it since there might be others in the same situation.
