Unfortunately the camera is proprietary so you will not be able to bypass sony and grab a manufacturer direct driver. The sony drivers will recognize that even though your partition is XP the board is DMI'd for Vista. No way around it yet.

there you go, use the pick driver function instead of the search function when you install this driver on xp.

did you download it with a download tool? try download directly using the ie downloader itself, also try unzip it with winrar. the other member download and works for him, so i think the file has no problem.

    ftp://ftp.vaio-link.com/pub/Vaio/Original/SZ4_Drivers.zip
the bluetooth driver for sz4 xp is included in this package, but you need patient to download it, it's pretty slow, don't use any of the download tool to download it, you will found out it's currupted after all.

    is that vaio-link site down?

I cannot download nothing from thier. Im having a heck of a time finding these drivers without it. Can anyone get on that ftp?

I downgraded to Xp Pro on a VGN-SZ440 also.
If anyone who has done this still has all the drivers they used for xp pro, and wanted to upload them for me I would greaaaaatly appreciate it.

    thank you

Thanks for the driver, downloaded and extracted with Win Rar as advised but how do I install it? I've replaced Vista with Win XP Home on my VGN-SZ440 and everything works with the exception of the web cam. I've checked in devices and there are no exclaimation marks and no web cam. I do however, have a USB video camera under Imaging devices. This isnt working despite properties stating otherwise. I've tried to replace the driver with this one but its not having it. Any suggestions?

When I use winrar, that file has no valid extension on it (like .exe or anything)

    How do you open it?

use the pick driver function instead of the search function when you install this driver, after you install it, it might still show as usb webcam, but that's ok, you can now try to run the sony capture tool. and it works like in vista.

Tried that.....didnt work. Windows says "The specified location does not contain information about your hardware". I tried cheating and changed the driver properties to .inf that did'nt work either.

I think we need clarification at this point. It would be useful to see what other peoples successful XP installs have produced in device manager.

I would like to post a snapshot of my device manager with all the folders open. But I can't because attachments are not allowed which really doesnt help matters. Is there any way to get my picture into this forum?

I wanted to post my device manager 'screen print' and ask if any one had any comments on the general appearence of my installation after looking at it. Can some one else who has completed an XP install on an SZ-440 share their device list for comparison?

So far I've not had any problems anything since installing XP. I didnt follow the dictated course of installation for XP drivers and used a hotch potch of SZ-330 & 440 drivers in combination with Vista where it worked.

I'm sorry say that I'm no longer convinced that this driver isnt corrupt. My reasonong is this:-

First as a zip file it should be possible to extract it with either Win Zip or Windows explorer neither of which works on this particular file. Second there is something fundementaly wrong with the fact that WinRar will open it when the proprietory software wont! In order to prove me wrong please upload this driver again. I suggest using WinRar

    10-Next
    11-Have disk
12-Select the place where you unzip the file
    13-Select “R5u870fl.inf”
    14-Open
    15-OK
    16-Next
    17-Select BT port (com10)
    18-Next
    19-Next
    20-Continue anyway
    21-Finish
Now the system recognaize the divaice
    1-Go to the device manager
    2-Dubel click “usb video device”
3-In the driver tab click “update driver”

That is not the driver that is in that rar file. It is VGP-VCC5
no .inf or anything after it...maybe that is the wrong file they uploaded on page 1 of this thread?

Yeah, the driver I downlaoded was VGP-VCC5 not R5u870fl.inf. ..... That would explain it. Its either the wrong driver or corrupt.

OK, now I know the right driver isnt the download in this thread. Forget wuruoyu's zip file its very wrong! The right driver is R5u870fl.inf......Thanks to wwb95 for mentioning it and for the instructions.

I looked in my download collection and found another driver file that contained wwb95's aforementioned R5u870fl.inf

After following his guide which is a long winded process ( how on earth did you figure out the proceedure? ) it works! Thanks again to wwb95 if he had not mentioned the driver name I & hopefully now customgt would still be stumped!

Something very strange is happening here. I thought I would check that my zip worked OK so I just downloaded it and guess what? Now its corrupt! Same problem as with wuruoyu's zip. Apologies to wuruoyu looks like I've sufferred the same fate as his did.

It should contain these four files :-
    R5U870FL.inf
    r5u870flx86.cat
    R5U870FLx86.sys
    R5U870FUx86.sys

but you can only open using WinRar and then its useless as VGP-VCC5!

Can the administrator check whats happening here?

    After doing that it says:
This device cannot start. (Code 10)

ive restarted the laptop, still nothing...not sure what is wrong?

    I searched google for:
    UPEK® TouchChip FingerPrint Coprocessor Driver

    Then get the Software:
The SZ4_Utilities biometcric installer will work.
The sz3_utilities biometric is empty some reason...

Get the bluetooth from the SZ4 packages also

I can't install the camera because I don't have Bluetooth installed properly (when I get to the port screen in wwb95's instructions, there are no options to choose from).

I've used the installers from the European FTP site--both the FE3 one and the SZ4 one, and both tell me to plug in the Bluetooth device during install...and that's where I get lost. Help?

    I have a VGN-FE890.

I'm working on a new Sony VAIO model VGN-FE880E,

I downloaded the drivers from the Sony's website in Europe others on the Intel website.

    2. Erased Vista partition, Installed XP Pro, programs worked, drivers did not

Sony only has drivers for Vista and not Win XP Pro.

    What I still need is:

    Camera Drivers

I followed the instructions from wwb95 to the letter but the camera still doesn't work.

2 situations ocurred that are diferent from the instructions:

    1st steps, Item 17-Select BT port (com10)

I can't see BT PORT COM 10 , in the list.
Only this is missing in my process.
    What is the wrong?

2nd step, Item 8-Select sony visual communication camera VGP-VCC5

    After doing that it says:
This device cannot start. (Code 10)

    This is the MOBO info:

    Chipset

    Detected Chipset:
Mobile Intel(R) 945GM/GMS/940GML Express Chipsets or Intel(R) 945GT Express Chipset

    Chipset Components

    I/O Controller:

Is the VGN-FE880E the only computer that Sony used the VGP-CC4 in?

I downloaded the drivers from the Sony/Serbian website.

The file is called FE3_drivers and the utilities file is called FE3_utilities, I got everyhting working but the camera.

I just about ran out of ideas.... does anybody else have any tips on how to get this camera working?

    Thanks... Ernani :(

I did not like Vista at all, I do video and sound editing, and in my opinion the OS just is not ready for any real major computing.

I think it is a memory hog, and I really got no benefits from whatsoever, so that is why I switched back to Windows XP.

Yea I am not really worried about the webcam thing to much, I am just glad I got everything else working, which to me is more important. (Firewire, Nic and etc)

having heard so many success and failure from all the guys around here. i have a little suggestion that can settle all issues regarding our beautiful sz. alot of users are complaining abt the lack of support from sony to provide support for sz in xp. since there are so many success cases in the forum, y not gather all the successful and working drivers for sz and sticky it in this forum? so future users and download them easily and make our sz work like beauties in XP! i am one of the many sz users that is waiting for the package to be up. cheers to all the successful guys whom had their sz working in XP and are willing to help the rest!

I wonder is it possible for all of us to write a huge letter to Sony and have people sign it so that we could tell them to support XP drivers.

I have the vaio FE880E, and it's running in xp... i tried with all the drivers from this link

    ftp://ftp.vaio-link.com/pub/Vaio/Original/

I tried with FE_3, FE_4 and FE_11.... the FE_11 has the VCC4 driver for the camera in xp.

Thanks a lot to everyone, i hope you can get the best perfomance for their machines.

pls dont misguide. fe11_drivers does not vgp-vcc4 drivers. it has vcc1. Every1 needs vcc4. The AR series also uses vcc4 i guess. If anyone can download their driver files from ftp://ftp.vaio-link.com/pub/vaio/original and check out which model has vcc4 version, then every1's problems wil b solved. Im at a place where internet access is alow and limited so cant download them.. Pls some1 download a1_drivers, a2_drivers ... til a5_drivers and then a11_drivers... I have found the solution. Now the implementation is on the other people
