I got an SR with 4G of ram installed, but when I check with the hardwares properties, it shows only about 2,9 of ram. I don't know why it consume that much of ram? i'm using vista business. Is anybody owned SR have the same problem like me?
I need help from you guy.
    Thank in Advance

Well, unless you install a 64-bit version of Vista, you will only be able to access ~3GB of RAM. Unfortunately, it is the limitation of 32-bit addressing.

I have been running Vista x64 for quite a while and it is rock-solid. It is time for M$ to make the 64-bit edition the default installation....../

32-bit vista addressed 4GB of ram(maximum). The thing is, your actual RAM sticks arent the only thing using this 4GB, your virtual memory is(i think...), your video memory(gpu) definatley is... etc.

no, nothing uses that 1GB that the windows didnt recognize, its useless. you're just get the benefit of dual channel memory by putting 4gb of ram in a 32bit system, nothing else
virtual memory uses the harddrive btw

I'm wonderign though if that "remainign" 1GB isn't actually "donated" to another part of your laptop.
For example, EmpireEarth II claimed that the NVidia had 1500MB of Graphics memory - Could Sony have made the for Windows useless memory available to the graphics card?

Not sure, it says the ATI 3470 uses like 870mb of hypermemory...so same question remains... It would be interesting if someone looked into this...

Also, TonyTheTiger...you mentioned the added benefit of dual-channel, but tom's hardware(i believe) wrote an article that i read a while ago about how dual channel doesnt really provide any real performance gains...

yeah i remember reading something like that too... the performance gain is only around 10% on an intel machine
the performance gain is higher on an AMD machine

I found this after doing a search

So i'm guessing the graphics card does use the leftover ram?
