Well I finally pulled the trigger on the Vaio Z after looking @ it in the store --
the model I came up with was
Intel® Core 2 Duo Processor P8600 (2.40 GHz, 3MB L2 Cache)
Genuine Windows Vista® Home Premium
Features: 3GB RAM, 320GB hard drive, Hybrid Graphics System, NVIDIA® graphics, HDMI out
Hopefully this will suffice for what I am using it for (WoW / random office apps / web surfing) -- should I have gone for the higher end model? Came out to ~$1500 after tax so I think i did ok!![]()
Do you guys have a sort of check list of what to do out of the box before I really start using it? So far I know I should be doing a clean install out of the box...anything else? Any accessories you guys would recommend buying? Any favorite case picks? Is it worth picking up the extra warranty if I got the 1 year default + 1 year Amex?

Though I am used to logitech mouse, I like the stylish sony mouse~

problem thingy. To be honest, I havent tested mine yet~ -
I like the cover VGP-CVZ1, which will continuously protect your machine when its out of the bag.

Congratulations on your new Z. I know the 'woohoo' feeling well from when I got mine.
Before you do anything, create the recovery DVD using some blank DVDRs. If you plan to remove the recovery partition as part of your clean install, I would recommend using the recovery disks first to make sure they actually work to do a recovery... just in case (otherwise Sony might try to charge you for replacement copies if you ever need them).Personally I bought a screen protector (and cleaning) cloth from Radtech, to place inside the laptop protecting the screen from the keyboard/case when it's closed. There have been some reports of screens getting marked if pressure is applied to the screen when in a backpack or whatever... but then again the Duraview coating should provide some protection so not everyone agrees it's needed. I also like to use a mouse for long sessions on a desk - I find it much quicker than a touchpad for Photoshop etc - so I use my Logitech VX Nano for that.
Case-wise, I bought the Sony Z Slip Case with Smart Protection, aka VGP-CKZ1, to put my Z in before I put it in my messenger bag. Because it's designed for the Z, it's a better fit than most of the generic 13" laptop cases, as they're designed to accommodate 13.3" laptops with bigger bezels and 16:10 screen ratios. There's a Z-specific cases/bags/sleeves thread somewhere in this forum - maybe have a read of that? This is a personal choice thing. I got a free 3 year warranty with my (UK version) Z. The upside is piece of mind and the downside is that you might void the warranty if you want to upgrade the HDD, depending on your warranty details and how you perform the upgrade.
new Vaio Z Owner -- woohoo -- what now?
