I am having a serious problem with my brand new sony. It has the blu-ray dvd. I am trying to install a dual boot with VISTA ultimate and Ubuntu. Problem is im trying to reinstall ultimate by booting from DVD and it goes straight to the hard drive which has Son'y vista bloatware OS loaded.

I tried checking BIOS but its a scaled down BIOS too with limited to no capabilities. I removed the internal hard drive from boot priority hoping it would be forced to boot from "Internal Optical Drive" upon reboot it said NO OPERATING SYSTEM FOUND.

Any idea how to boot from dvd here?

I am not sure you can REMOVE the HD from the Boot Sequence, what you want to do is change the boot order so the DVD drive is at the top.

Are you CERTAIN the DVD disk is bootable, i.e. have you tried it in another machine?

sure you can remove it from the boot sequence, (hit x in bios menu) -

i tried the dvd on my desktop machine, booted fine. put the 64-bit dvd in and it booted this afternoon.. I got vista installed fresh. Now im having problems updating the drivers in 64....

Anyone seen this error, I searched forums and am currently reading through about 6 pages of threads searching for a solution....

*my search skills need updated :p

ERROR installing drivers from Sony Support for Sigmatel audio, conexant modem, ethernet, ALPS, memory card reader, and camera. All the rest installed fine.

Here is the error message i get when trying to install the above drivers...

"You have to run the 64-bit version of DPInst.eve on this machine"

I have installed the DPI package from microsoft.. but it didnt fix the problem..

    thanks for the help :)

and to update my quest. Apparantly there are no 64 bit drivers for those devices released by sony yet. I cannot get the 32 bit DVD to boot on this laptop, the 64 bit boots fine.

It has to be a DVD error since i can get the 32 bit to boot on my desktop...

You said this disk works ok on another machine, right? If so, you might want to use THAT machine to duplicate the DVD. You might have better results with the duplicate.

RE: 64 bits. There are one or two threads here with folks who have had SOME success in installing 64 bit Vista. They are still searching for a couple of drivers though, I believe. I know they have outstanding issues with the ancillary applications that enable some of the hardware functionality not enabled by having the drivers alone. Things like power management and the function keys are the two major ones.

At this point unless you REALLY, REALLY need 64 bits, I'd not open that can of worms. It is just asking for headaches.

P.S. Glad the guide has been helpful for you!!!
