I'm trying to install Windows XP on a brand new Toshiba hard drive in a Sony Vaio VGN-CS190 and I keep getting the blue screen error message that ends with "0X0000007B,(0XF78D2524,0XC0000034,0X00000000,0X00000000)". I've tried another brand new hard drive and get the same message. I've completely reformatted the hard drive and get the same message. The laptop came with Windows Vista install. Do I need to update the BIOS and if so, how do you do it? Thanks!

If i remember correctly, XP doesn't natively support sata hdd's or something like that. You need to load the hdd driver during install by having it available when XP says "press a key to load raid driver", or use nlite to make a slipstreamed xp cd. Also try googling that blue screen error.

    this link may also help.

Thanks, I'll try the "108" link and see what happens. I did nlite, slipstream cd but maybe I had too much stuff on the cd, still got the blue screen error. Googling the error msg leads to hard drive driver indications like you said.
