I don't know when of the new S will be available in Europe. It will be available in mid-Feb in Japan.

For the moment, I think you should wait. If you really care for out-right performance and don't worry much about the battery life, the new S "should be" (there really isn't much benchmark information yet, especially the nVidia 6200 TC vs. Radeon 9700 benchmark) better than the current S -- even though I doubt that how large the margine will be. On the other hand, if the benefit of new S is not so impressive, the price of S2XP should still drop as we get close to and over the relaese date of the new S, giving you the chance to buy S2XP cheap. So, if you are not in a hurry then waiting for more information is probably the best route.

price drop here in spain is never posible in vaio laptops... they only replace the machine for a new version but a price drop is really unexpectable...

for me most important thing less than the perfomance is battery life, i own a s2xp for 2 weeks (Bad pixels) and i only get three and half hours of battery life using only web browsing thru wired ethernet and some divx playing and a 5 level of bright of the scree...

i also saw that the new S will weight a few grams more... and this is imporant too for me... but, how fast will be the new S??? How much will be noticiable the Serial ATA and 533 front bus... ?

Yes, the new S will be at 1.95 kg (versus 1.89 kg of current model). It's not a huge jump, though. Battery life wise, the new S is almost guaranteed to have a shorter battery life. It's hard to tell the improvement in performance at this point -- there are just too few Sonoma laptops out there. My guess is that the current S2 will still provide a better combination of performance and battery life (if you value battery life), but that's just me.[8D]

sonoma isnt a processor. it is the successor to centrino which is a chipset. It does support the upcoming line of 533 mhz Pentium M's that will include a 2.2 ghz, i believe.

the only notebook i can think of that offers dvi at that size is the Apple Powerbook G4 at i think it is either 12 or 14 inches, but in either case the smalles powerbook.
