Since a couple of months, randomly after I close the lid my F12 does not power off. It should change the power indicator to orange and turn off all other lights.
Instead, I have a dark screen, the disk light showing some periodic activity and the power indicator still in green.
After maybe 30 minutes or more, the system powers off completely and when I power on it acts as if improperly shutdown.
    Any ideas ? suggestions ?

Have you tried restoring the system to an earlier point (when it was working fine) or reinstalling windows?

I think those are your best shots...

The problem is I can't think of any way to find out what exactly hangs :mask:

maybe with some logging software... but I'm afraid the time you need to invest in researching will be more than just reinstalling the system :-/

^You should be able to dig through event viewer to find which application is responding in a timely fashion.

On the older FW series had the same issue - Sony put out a registry update for the USB drives that did not want to respond correctly after sleep (especially if something plugged into them).
Check the Sony page for your model - possibly something is there?
Else concur on the event viewer mentioned by beaups.

I also HAD the same problem. I think it STILL happens sometimes too, when i have WWAN/GPS enabled and attempt to shutdown (sometimes). Once I have that disabled, it shuts down fast. It also shut down much faster with the Wi-Fi switch flicked to OFF.

There was nothing in the event viewer and no error found, which was weird indeed.
