boy....i was kinda upset at how critical they were about the SR seeing as they gushed about the FW(which others have had some complaints about..in fact similiar "issues" to what notebookjournal mentions in the SR review but does not mention the FW review such as inability to shutdown, etc)...

Well i havent recieved my SR yet, so i have no argument...but they were quite critical of it, does anyone who has owned/used a vaio SR believe that this review has any merit?

Others have noticed the flex near the touchpad, so that part is accurate at least. I don't expect good speakers out of a tiny notebook, but I'm surprised they ranked the headphone quality so low. I'm not one of those sound enthusiasts, but quite honestly, I don't find much to complain when listening through a headphone.

Ports-wise, I did find the only 2 USB ports a bit lacking, but it's good enough for my purposes. I'm surprised that their model apparently doesn't come with a VGA port?! Or did they just not notice it?

Review seems accurate for the most part, but perhaps a bit overly critical on the screen. Then again, I came from a Toshiba Satellite, which practically turns into a mirror when there's bright lighting, so I'm basically happy with any sort of improvement on that. XD

I didn't think they were overly critical of it, quiet a fair review I thought. Quite alot of the points were certainly inline with my experiences with the SR. I will have a look at the FW review in a moment. I do agree that they shouldn't be complaining about the screen, as a buy they would know that they are buying a glossy screen.

You can't be sing praise for every notebook, notebooks that are truly excellent don't come by very often in each generation. And especially considering the fact that the SR cost about $1880USD in the UK, I think you'd be saying the same too. :)

Are the speakers really that abysmal? I wouldn't mind watching an episode or two of House MD once in a while with my friends. . .

I agree with this... Plus, I'd prefer that a review be critical so that I know what I'm getting myself into. I didn't think the review was overly critical, and it isn't swaying my view of the SR. In fact, I'll probably be purchasing one soon!

I have yet to read this review, but I think they had some strange model.

Otherwise, they just didn't notice that there is indeed a VGA port that seemed to me to be a standard on all of the SRs, seeing as we have no HDMI. >.>

The speakers aren't -that- bad really. They are good for watching TV and stuff. Even though they are alright for that, I still listen to music through them, simply because I don't care. xD

I haven't tried the headphone port, but maybe it is bad. I would have to try it and listen. What also makes a difference in terms of quality is which program they use for music as well as if it has an equalizer.

I dunno about anyone, but I don't have any flex near my touchpad, but maybe that's because I am tiny and don't really rest my hands on that part of the laptop anyway (I always type with my wrists in the air).

Oh yeah, and I've been walking outside with my screen, and guess what? Even without max brightness turned on, I can see the screen pretty great. I can read any text (on music programs) and stuff. It's really a lot better than I was anticipating. Even my friend was like, wow, I'm impressed, because her Gateway just turns into a mirror outside.

No its not a ''strange model'', its just the UK model number. I doubt Sony will sent out a lemon for review either.

Hmm.... I would think that they would put a VGA out on that model though?

Since you know, they have projection technology out there too... xD *sarcasm*

But seriously, I know they probably tested it. Strange that the SR in England seems to be different from that in the US. I would think that they would want to keep around the same specs...

It does have a VGA out, look at the last picture... ;) They just didn't spot it.

If you look at the test report, it shows which ports the SR does and does not have and they have a check mark next to VGA, so they do in fact know that it has one...

the review is slightly bull. The headphone port is great. I make music on this laptop and using high quality studio headphones...I have no issues! Infact, my music has never sounded better!

the speakers SUCK though. TERRIBLE. No exception. It sucks. My 10 dollar FM portable radio sounds just as good, no joke.
