    Hey guys.

I asked this same question over at notebookforums but the people over there seem to be pretty selective about which questions they like to answer. So I'm trying again over here, hopefully with better results.

I have the base model of the UK version of the S4xx series, the S4M. Recently I upgraded the GeForce Go 6200 drivers to 77.72 and have been enjoying the improved performance over the older Sony drivers.

However, I've noticed that I can no longer adjust the brightness of the LCD. Pushing Fn-F5/F6 still bring up the brightness display meter but it's stuck in one position.

This just seems to be a problem with this driver version and when I go back to the Sony drivers things are alright.

So here's my question. What version drivers are people using for the GeForce Go 6200 cards? Do all non-Sony versions have this issue with the brightness control or have I just managed to pick a 'good one'?

    Thanks.

    Dave

Well, I don't have the S-series, but you could try going to www.laptopvideo2go.com and getting the latest drivers from them.

Have you tried reinstalling the old Sony drivers to make sure that the drivers are the problem?

Yeah, as Chaz said, I would check out www.laptopvideo2go.com. They seem to have some pretty friendly people there so you might want to check out their forums. Good luck.

    Thanks guys.

Yeah, I picked up my drivers from there but I wasn't sure if this problem could be related just to Sony.

As I said, when I reinstall the drivers released by Sony the brightness control works again.

I'll go see if laptopvideo2go has any answers, but mostly I was just wondering what video drivers other people are using for their 6200 cards and if they've had any hiccups like this.

    dkim,

I ran into the same problem you did with the brightness function not working after a driver upgrade. The solution for me was simply to install the new drivers over the old Sony supplied drivers without removing them first in add/remove programs. This seems to leave behind whatever registry setting is necessary to activate the Nvidia brightness control functions. I use the drivers from http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/ as others have metioned. Right now I'm on version 81.85 and the brightness functions are working.

    Hope this helps!

Well try to resolve the problem by playing with the power options and the powermizer . I clearly remember that I was facing a similar problem a couple of months ago and I think altering the power settings will do the trick .Turn off the power management and set the CPU Control to Performance and in Powermizer , set both of the settings(AC Outlet and Battery) to MAX Performance. All the best .
