i bought my sony vaio c series laptop a few weeks ago, very soon im going to be using everyday for a few years. this got me thinking that it will kill my battery quite quickly and then the magic day would come and i would have to pay 200$ for a new one. however a friend in my class said that his battery died when he got his new hp laptop and when he called them hp immediately sent him a brand new battery without asking for the old one. can i do the same thing and tell (call) sony that my battery isn't holding very well and they will send me a new battery?

Dishonest as it is, they may send you a new battery. You will not know unless you try.

Sony's customer service is slow. It will take a while. First they will have you troubleshoot the battery by cleaning it with a pencil eraser and then charging it overnight. If that doesn't work, they'll have you reset the BIOS, then update it. Then if that doesn't work, they will BS you into telling you you have to replace the battery at your expense. I told them I wasn't gonna pay and that they should send me a replacement for my SZ laptop since it was still under the factory warranty. It worked, I got my new battery, but you do have to send back the old one, otherwise you get charged for the new one.
ordering new battery....
