    Hello everybody,
i'm new to this group, and I hope i can find
    help here.

    I have a Vaio VGN-SZ230P model.

    It is bluetooth enabled.
    I have a Motorola MOTORIZR Z6tv,
    Verizon is my carrier.

I have been able to pair the Vaio to the phone,
but not the phone to the Vaio.
When i go to SmartWi Connection Utility, "paired devices" box is blank,
so I click on Bluetooth Devices and that opens the Bluetooth Settings window.
With the Connection Wizard, in Express Mode, i click next, and I get a
" Unable to detect remote devices " after it searches for bluetooth devices.

I've done it in Custom as well, but nothing i do will get my Vaio to detect my phone. Can someone please tell me what to do to get the Vaio to see my cell phone?
    thanks!

usually, after you put vaio in disvocery mode, you have to put the cell phone in bt mode as well.

    i have done that already.

the cell phone and the Vaio are both already bluetooth enabled.

The cell phone is picking up the Vaio,
but the Vaio is not picking up the cell phone

Try this. Do not use the wifi utility. Click the BT icon on the tray on bottom right. Click add devise (after you turned on bt on the phone). It will ask for pairing code.

thanks for trying to help me ...

i did that, left clicked on the BT icon at the lower right, selected
"Add New Connection" (there's no Add Device choice), and that
opened the "Add New Connection Wizard" with the Express and Custom
choices, I tried both again, and i got the "Unable to detect remote devices."
Same story as in my first post. I do have my cell turned on, and the cell is
detecting the Vaio, but the Vaio does not find my cell.

This really does sound like what the first reply said -- You need to *also* enable bluetooth *discovery/visibility* on your cell. This is different from bluetooth on/off. Just because your cell sees your Vaio doesn't mean at all that the Vaio should be able to see the cell.

Because the cell sees the Vaio then:
    1. The cell has bluetooth on.
    2. Vaio has bluetooth on.
    3. Vaio has allowed for its own discovery by other bluetooth devices (i.e. your cell).

    So you also need:
    4. Cell has allowed for its own discovery by other bluetooth devices.
On my LG phone, my Bluetooth menu as On and Off. This controls #1 above.

But if I also want #4, I also need to go to Bluetooth... Options... Discovery Mode... and then switch it from Hidden to Visible. Only then can I do #4.

I apologize if you really did do all of this and turn on Bluetooth and also turn on Bluetooth visibility. But it wasn't clear from your posts so it's the first thing we can suggest. Good luck.

    Mickey: you were right on!
i had to turn discovery mode to "on" and then the Vaio saw my phone.
It 's icon is now in the bluetooth settings box.

HOWEVER, how the heck do i get the pics in the phone to the Vaio?
I don't see the cell phone listed anywhere on the Vaio, like a folder,
or something that i can open and transfer pics ...
    do i need software now?
    thanks!

i don't see my cell phone in windows explorer.
Only thing i see is, under My Network Places, is the Bluetooth Information Exchanger, and inside that are three icons: FileTransfer, ImageTransfer and
Object Push. When I double click on each of those, there is nothing inside.
I cannot get to my cell phone so that I can select my pictures to import to the computer. Any suggestions?

In windows explorer, under computer, look for the drives or devices or memory devices. Do not look for cell phone. Alternatively, click start->computer, it should show all the disk drives, usb's, memory devices, etc, try each one of those. By the way, BT tranfer is very slow. I connect my cell phone to pc via usb, (view it under windows explorer) and files transfer is much faster.
