i have a sovy vaio, model pcg fx 340 with xp professional. i noticed that the cddrive is not listed under my computer, and when i put in a cd, the computer acts like nothing happened. the cd door opens, and the ledlight comes on, but no action! i also noticed the cd is not ecven listed in device manager. do i need to re-install the driver? if so,where can i find the cd rom-dvd driver for i? since there is no response from the cd rom, i can't even re-load the driver from the driver cd!

    thanks,

    ddaymen

Have you tried a restore point where it worked before? If that doesn't work you might want to remove and replace (re-seat) the optical drive. There are stickies about Sony notebooks disassembly.
