    hey!

i've had my fr415b for about 1.7 years now (since july 04), but it wasn't until recently that i really noticed a problem i think it had since the beginning: the fan is EXTREMELY LOUD.
i have cleaned all ventilation holes with a vaccuum, even opened the pc (removing the keyboard) just to notice there are TWO FANS!! one turns on after 1-5 mins after startup and never stops again, under heavy load the 2nd one kicks in. the expelled air is really hot, so it's not "over-reacting".

i thought of reducing the clock speed of the cpu (overclocking inverse) but celerons (2.8 ghz in my case) can't be altered. i hvae looked for cpu and fan regulating programs, but none seems to support the motherboard the notebook has. (everest home edition identifies it as "sony corporation q-project")

any way to change at least the fsb to reduce overall clock speed? that would be ok when i just want to have it on in the background to listen to internet radio, etc. where the fan is unacceptably loud.

i have also tried to raise the whole thing on wood blocks by about 4in/10cm. it cools down the expelled air noticeably, but not enough to keep the fan quiet even under no load (except for windows and its components).

    any advice?

i was also thinking of doing a super-mod by removing the entire noteboook case, pasting a huge but silent fan with a big passive heat-sink over the cpu and building a new case (i don't need the mobility of a notebook, i could do with a wireless keyboard+mouse), but the cpu seems to be pasted to the fan->cpu->rear air-ducts and i'm afraid i might break something. also i don't know if there are compatible coolers for a notebook celeron (not celeron M, it is identified as a celeron 2.8 ghz codename "northwood-128")

ok, what is the best approach for me?
sorry for the mega-post but i'm desperate
thanks for any help here!! :-D
