Hitachi 500GB 7200RPM. It's been $45 quite frequently in the last few months at Frys. I got mine like 6 months ago at the price. I ended up not using it though. I went with a 500GB 5400 instead in my Z for power reasons. Every little bit counts. The speed difference is meaningless for me since it's a archival drive.

I second Trieu's suggestion of the XT, it's a hybrid drive with 4gb of NAND (SSD) storage and apparently uses a pretty effective algorithm for analyzing your use and choosing what files to stash in there.

    Benchmarks say otherwise.
In many cases, it's slower than other HDDs.

Also, the Windows-only benchmarks don't show it, but unless you exclusively use Windows, the few cases where it is faster won't come into play, as the drive depends on Windows Hybrid drive support.

I would strongly recommend against this drive for another reason, though: an increased risk of failure. If either the HD or the SD part fails, the drive fails. And the SD part doesn't have any spare space at all.
I'd recommend saving the premium for this drive and instead buy a fast MS or SD card (whichever you don't normally use) or two, and enable readyboost. That'll probably give you more of a speed increase without having to worry about it affecting the longevity of the drive.

If not the XT, then definitely the Hitachi 7K500. I love my Hitachi. Can't wait for them to release a larger 7200RPM. I've got room in the ODD bay on my F for a 12.5mm, so I'll take a thicker drive.
