After reading all the hype over SSD's i finally got around to replacing the 100gb 4200rpm toshiba drive in my tz130 with a sandisk 32gb ssd .

All i can say is what a huge disapointment .

    I have 2 - tz130 notebooks , one with the factory drive , one with a sandisk uata 5000 32gb ssd .

The ssd boots the notebook in 60 seconds the factory toshiba 4200rpm takes 66 seconds . Same software & configuration on both . Vista hard disk performance score for the toshiba is 3.9 , the sandisk is 4.2 .

Im seeing applications open maybe a few milliseconds faster , sometimes it actually seems slower than the factory toshiba drive .

The notebook does run much cooler & im sure battery life will be longer but im so deppressed by its performance im probably gonna put the factory 4200rpm drive back in . :(

Should i have bought a samsung ssd instead ?

I thought i read a post here saying the 32gb sandisk actually performs better than samsungs 32gb ssd . I must be mistaken .

Was under the impression that only the 48 & 64 gb samsung ssd's are faster . You would think since the sandisk 32gb ssd's generally run about $100 more than the 32gb samsung it would be faster , guess not .

Well, it has been proven by numerous tech websites that, as of right now, ssd is not worth the cost to performance.

As the technology gets better and prices fall the you will see the true performance and value of solid state disks.

This reminds me of my friend that bought a Panasonic plasma back in 1999 or 2000. It was a 50" and cost him close to $30,000. It was nice at the time, but plasma technology got real goo and cheaper - now a POS vizio plasma that costs $1000 looks nicer than the set he bought!

    Ouch!!!
