    Hello,
I am planning to purchase a z590 with P9500 3GB of memory and 250 GB of hdd. I can get the configuration from both sony and portableone with the same price. As far as I understood from your previous posts the CTO ones are not recoomended. Will there be a difference if I get the notebook from portableone, i mean are they gonna get the basic z590 model which is also a CTO and just upgrade the features i am looking for?

The warranty is not a big deal for me since i will take it to Turkey....

and also i will be in the US till september, 4. Does the shipping time differ so much between the two sites? or do you think it will come till september 4 or is it just a dream to get it before leaving the US??

Thanks for the further replies and sorry if anybody asked these questions before...

I only hear great things about PortableOne

Not to mention you can get the free optimised software from P1

Ditto. The seller ratings for P1 are stellar and you very rarely hear any complaints about their service. Even for quick queries via phone/email, they seem very good.

I think there's been a bit too much made of the 'problems' with CTO. A few bad experiences don't mean all CTOs are dodgy, IMHO. ;)

i preface this by saying that i've NEVER ordered anything from them.

BUT i've pretty much decided on getting an SR, and will very likely order from P1... i've sent numerous questions to them and they've responded quickly. i've read only good things about them.

I haven't ordered from Portable One before either, but their Sales support is great, I've been bombing them with TONS of questions about the SR and they've responded with days, sometimes HOURS to each one.

And they're a far better value as well IMO.

Read the Z owner's thread - there's lots of discussion and opinions about CTOs.

    Hey InfyMcGirk,

I read the Z owner's thread and PhilFlow as well as several others have dispelled this belief. Several others have confirmed that sonystyle USA and sony japan use the same pool of components, etc. Most likely, it says, that if there is any difference it's miniscule. So i wouldn;t worry about CTO vs. pre-config.

Thanks bigpants. I wasn't worried about CTO... but then it's irrelevant to me as we don't get CTOs in the UK. ;)

(It wouldn't be a concern for me if I imported either, but in that case I'd be more worried about taxes and warranties... )

I've bought from both P1 and directly from SonyStyle. SonyStyle can be cheaper especially if you haggle with the operator, but P1 has far better support and service.

i find this hard to believe... are you saying that they'll discount the price over the phone, or that they'll upgrade hardware for discounted prices???

you can discounts over the phone, the CSRs will try their best to sell you teh product including $100 discounts and such( i did that). I've also heard that some guys at sonystyle stores try to sell it to you using their employee discount codes.

That being said, in most cases its a bit cheaper to upgrade ram and harddrive from P1 as they do it themselves on a base model from sony. they use cheaper hardware and charge less service which is why you can generally save $10-20 on certain upgrades from P1.
