do u have a HP? ...cause I have a dv4000 and seemed to have had the same problem and even tho i had it checked and am very smart, I called hp, they didnt help and bascily they made me create a new user (which i already thought of but didnt want to do) so what I did was just get a yahoo widget or other 3rd party software that will show it, its annyoing ik but doesnt really seem to be many things to do, well maybe you could try a program like "CC cleaner" they may fix the issue, so to sum all of this up: get a third party program such as a yahoo widget to display batt life, create a new profile or somehow use a disc you got with ur computer and try to fix errors in the HD, Well thats alll i can think of!

I know this doesn't really solve your problem directly but one thing you should do if you haven't already is download Notebook Hardware Control. It has a system tray battery icon of its own, along with TONS of other great stuff. Check it out:

If you enabled "Show icons for networked UPnP devices" in My Network Places this would happen. If you do not have it enabled then that might not be it.

Ahh i think i may have fixed it. =) Went into run > services.msc and then double clicked on SSDP Discovery Service and disabled it. Now im able to see the power meter every reboot. Someone else who has this problem see if they can confirm this as a working fix.

Yes SSDP Discovery Service is started by having enabled "Show icons for networked UPnP devices" in My Network Places.

You can always disable this by going into My Network Places and click "Hide UPnP Devices", for people who accidentally enabled it.
