If you are using Vista, you need to make sure the power setting is on high performance.

If you are using XP, you need to set the laptop's power management to the 'high power' or 'max performance' (or equivalent).

Also, try VLC player, one of my PCs refuses to play 1080p with media player classic and VLC works fine.

If you're playing it on the laptop display, is your 620E's display resolution 1920x1200? Because if not, then it's not displaying native 1080p, but interpolating. If this is being done strictly in software, then it would affect playback performance significantly.

The laptops that claim full HD capability I believe are referring to output capability to an external monitor. But to get 1080p in the laptop display itself, it *must* have a 1920x1200 (WUXGA) display.

Try installing CoreAVC to play HD movies smoothly in Windows.

    You can't display 1080 on a 1440x900 as 1080>900.

It's not code for anything. I mean what I say and I say what I mean.

    I assume this is mkv/h264/x264?

The problem you are having is a codec problem that isn't able to efficiently decode the x264/MKV container file. Your machine requirements should run it perfectly fine, heck my 2 year old Asus W3V with a Pentium M 2.26 can, why can't yours?

Just download either the latest "K-lite codec" or "CCCP" or "CoreAVC" and you should have smooth x264 video.

so what program would you choose out of those 3 and yes its a .mkv file it plays fine for a little bit then freezes and then goes back to normal so you think all i need to do is get the latest coreavc and it should run smoothly

yes. However CoreAVC is not free(but the fastest decoder), so I would recommend the other 2 (which are codec packs that contain alot of other codecs such as divx/xvid etc) Just choose either one, both are highly recommended packs.

LCD's have a fixed pixel size which forces a maximum resolution. A 1440x900 panel will never exceed 1440x900, so you cannot display 1080p on a 900p display. All you can do to get 1080p is output to an external monitor/TV. Now the laptop will of course display 720p HD content just fine.

EDIT: Whoops, I missed that the discussion went to page 2, I thought I was responding right behind your question. Sorry!
