I am finding my fan is constantly changes pitches, kinda of a whiny, siren sound. I don't think the actual sound at any given time is unnormal, its more just that it is constantly changing, so it becomes annoying. I don't mind if my fan needs to be louder at times, but I would like for it to be loud at a consistent tone. Is this normal? Is there anyway to lock the fan at a certain speed so it isn't constantly pulsating like it is?

This is normal. You can't change the fan settings in most sony laptops.

ok so the fan will go in and out of high mode automatically. i understand that. but while it is in 'high mode' shouldn't it have a consistent loud tone. not this whiny siren type sound. is this a hardware defect. do all the fw's do this?
