i bought an external hard drive for extra storage, and have been messin around synchronizing some of the files. when i went into my computer and clicked my c drive, i saw two files i dont remember seeing before. maybe im wrong but they seem very out of place. the files are bootsect.bak and vcredist_x86. are they suppose to be here?

Seems to me that something has created a backup file of the boot sector. Seems fine to me. That's where I expect WinXP to put those kind of 'system' files.

    Patriot,

Did you have XP on this machine??? I think those are files created when Vista is UPGRADED from XP. It offers to backup certain files, and I think the boot sector files is one of those.

No never put XP on it, only thing i did was synchronize the "Users > Ben" (my name obviously) file. To be honest I'm not even 100% sure what synchronizing the files actually does. I can only access them through the program WD sync, and the files run slower. I would have been better off just selecting the files and putting them in the drive. But anyways, I obviously done more than I realized
