    hi,

i'm thinking of a sony vaio, and looking at windows 7 also
the vaio comes also with adobe elements photoshop software

would this app still be avaiable if i upgrade to win 7? i assume the license is valid only for vista?

what if i did a clean installation of windows 7, if i had previously made a restore disk when first buying the vaio, i assume this will overwrite my win 7 installation.....so would there be any way get the app back on with win 7? (assuming that my first assumption was wrong and the licence wasnt restricted to vista)

    any ideas?
seems a waste to pay for the notebook and have this software only to lose the ability when/if i upgrade the OS

just wanna check with you guys as to how this would work.

If I remember correct, the adobe software that comes with the sony lappie (eg premiere elements and photoshop) are usable when you upgrade the Vista OS to a higher Vista OS (an example is an upgrade from Vista Business to Ultimate).

If a major change was to be made to the system (an upgrade from Vista to 7 is classified as such), photoshop and premiere elements license registries will be altered. Simply saying, I highly doubt that these programs will work when you upgrade to 7 from Vista.

I say this because I had a similar problem when upgrading from XP to Vista. But since I haven't tried the upgrade from Vista to 7 yet (not from the preinstalled OEM Vista at least), I cannot 100% confirm my theory. I have tried 7 as a clean install but can't find too much difference in terms of file structures and folder names between the two OSs, so there is a slight possibility that an UPGRADE (not a clean install) will still allow you to use those adobe software.

BUT, you will be better off asking adobe themselves, or maybe Sony (though not too sure if they will give you a decent response).
