unless you're an enthusiast, stay with the samsung

i love samsung stuff, i have samsung mp3 ..hdtv.. monitor..phone... they are awesome

and i've secretly been rooting for samsung to step it up with their laptops, and now that i've just looked a bit into x460, i can see that they're making huge strides

The X460 is bigger, heavier (30% heavier then the Z!), slower videocard, lower resolution on the screen, no built in 3G/HSDPA. But for your usage both are more then enough.
Dont they sell the Z21MN in the UK (they do in holland)? That model is cheaper because it doesnt have the 3G modem, a lower resolution of 1366*768 in stead of 1600*900 (but still higher then the samsung's 1280*800!) and ofcourse still LED backlight. It has the same videocard (9300M), cpu (P8600) and memory (4GB).

Why is built in WWAN always pointed out as a con? Does anyone even use it? Over here it's 59.99$ a month for something like 5gb, not worth it to me. Also, it only works for Sprint.. and you can opt for an express card and use any service you want so the WWAN doesn't really matter. Just curious about this since I've seen this a lot (mostly on netbooks but that I understand because there's no express card slot).

I don't think vram should matter very much, since you are probably not going to play games on high resolution as the performance will drop. On regular resolutions, Phil stated in the Z thread that you would see better performance with 128mb vram.

As for which resolution is better, it's all personal preference. You can either look at pictures of comparisons, which isn't very good because it doesn't predict real world usage and if you would adapt to it. You can also test out other laptops with similar resolutions to get a feel for which one you like. But I doubt anyone's opinion will help you on that. A lot of it is customizable though, the sizes and whatnot. (refer to p.636-637 in the official Z thread and read arth1's replies.)

probably not, they're in different leagues in both quality and price

if you are willing to pay almost twice the price, then the vaio z will be the best choice

think of the samsung as the little brother to the vaio z
