In notebook hardware control there is an option to make the HD run quietly or loudly - which works great, i might ad.. but does any one know if there is any performance differences in HD speed when it is running in quiet mode as opposed to loud mode? I just assumed that louder is fast because its just operating in some raw mode where it doesnt need to tiptoe... but does anyone know ?

You can see it yourself. ;)
The two main benches for this purpose are : HDTune,SiSoft Sandra
That way you can find the best match for the performance you want.
