i've decided to put off both the vaio z and dell xps 1340 because neither really do it for me. it's been a while since i've heard anything about the vaio sr, however. could it be that they might update it to make for the student market 2009?

i also have a general question about laptops: what are the chances of the 13" format being properly introduced to mid sized graphic cards in 2009? or are there any substantial changes in the notebook lines in store for 2009?

the reason i ask is that i can wait perhaps 5 months before buying a new laptop. i am of course not asking for a top of the line model, but rather an extension of what the vaio z already has to offer now.

if nothing is going to change during the year (except for the laptop core i7 at the end of Q3) then i might as well just bite the bullet and go for a vaio z.

Things will always change. Not drastically especially for what you're looking for. They may change big time if you're willing to drop 3+ K on a laptop. In the 1000-1500 range, you may get a couple hundred MHz more and maybe a better video card.

In 5 months it will be July, and the SR/Z will be getting ready for a fall (maybe) re-release with Nehalem. Before then, the only changes might be an updated 4000 Series ATI card in the SR.

it seems that playing the waiting game will pay off, especially if i can get hooked up with a 4570 and ddr3 in a sony sr.

Is Sony planning on releasing any new models this year? Besides the G series announced a little while ago. Or are they just going to update their current notebooks repeatedly?

Speaking of the SR series, it is a great notebook and arguably much more sturdy than the Z series. Any chance that with the presumably new Ati 4570 graphics card, we can expect a better display other than a 1280x800 eco-display?

Sony should also start introducing OLED displays into their notebooks, particularly the smaller ones.
