i had upgraded my sz to vista from XP. still my restore partition is there and i want to get rid of that.

i had taken the restore dvd as well.

now i want to get rid of the recovery partition..is it possible for me to do it keeping the machine as it is..or i need to full format the pc and get the whole gb back and then install the vista back.

I used Acronis Disk Director to remove the recovery partition and give the resulting free space back to the primary partition.

if you have a bootable win98 se cd lying around somewhere. use it to boot into command line, and run fdisk to remove the recovery partition.

    I also use Acronis.

In my opinion it's the best program for it, better than Partition Magic.

Search this forum for DISKPART. It is a Vista command line tool for manipulating disk partitions. Not for the faint of heart, you need to KNOW what you are doing and understand a bit about partitions before you attempt this. It would also be a REALLY good idea if you had a full backup of your machine prior to using ANY of the tools mentioned. Their actions are NOT reversible. You may end up loosing your XP partition if you are not REALLY careful.

Unless I am mistaken, diskpart only adds, deletes, and formats. It will not give the space that had been allocated to one partition to another existing partition.

I think you are correct. But once the space is "unpartitioned" it can then be used by the Vista gui Disk Manager. But I beleive that can ONLY append to an exitisting partition. I don't think either "free" tool can slide the partitions, like one of the commercial apps can. So if the hidden partition is the first thing on the drive and you can manage to free the space up it would not be able to be added to an existing partition. Again you'd need one of the commercial apps to accomplish that.

I believe TI10 had some issues with Vista. Are you running Vista?

    My TX-850p runing XP.
I guess the hidden recovery partition merged with active partition is caused problem...I forgot to unhidden before merge...too bad ..I forgot to make the new recovery disk boot :(
