My hard drive went out on my Sony vgn-nr180e laptop o bought a new hard drive from newegg and i am trying to restore windows from the recovery disk but it only gets to about 18% finished and then it errors out of it. Is my recovery disk bad? or since i bought a different hard drive is it not reconizing it as the original hard drive and causing it to fail? any help would be appreciated

Restoring to a different sized hard drive may not work. (it seems like it)

Easiest way I know off: Put the old drive back. Install Trial version of Acronis True Image. Clone harddrive to the new harddrive (or somewhere else). Install new hard drive.

Then do a clean install with Vista. There should be a guide somewhere.

You need a Vista installation disc though and you can use the number on the bottom of your laptop.
