Hi all, just bought a vgn-aw11s,it's a nice machine but one thing is really bugging me.when i reset the resolution, to one that i can see without having to wear my reading glasses,it is automatically reset to the highest setting when the computer is restarted??.Also had a hard time updating the graphic's driver either from sony or nvidia(ge force 9600m gt).Any help on how to do this would be appreciated, thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

You might also consider just changing the DPI settings instead of the resolution so that fonts will be larger without loosing clarity by not running in native resolution.

Have you tried making the change in the vaio control center for resolution instead of desktop personalization? Perhaps that might work.

I found a more recent nvidia driver on the sony FTP site.

The driver is 7676 and called ALBATROSS or specifically: GRAPHICS_DRIVER_NVIDIA_ALBATROSS3_7.15.11.7676.ZIP (for 32 bit) and GRAPHICS_DRIVER_NVIDIA_ALBATROSS3_64_7.15.11.7676.ZIP (for 64 bit).

Use at your own risk. ;)

It works fine on my AW. Uninstall the old nvidia driver, reboot, install the new one after extracting the zip file to a folder and running setup.exe.

ok, I just tested my AW (vista ultimate 32) and it remembered my resolution of 1280x720 through a reboot. You might try disabling the color control applet as shown in my signature. That is the only difference I can think of that is non-standard and perhaps the cause of your 'reset'.

    Here is the link: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showpost.php?p=5013076&postcount=2557

If that is not the cause, you might have something that is loading during startup. Check the 'startup' group under "All Programs" to see what loads up. You can also use msconfig to disable suspected startup items that are outside of the 'startup' group.

On my system, when I rebooted, the logon screen (where you swipe your finger) was at the lower resolution. Is that the case on yours and it resets after you log in or is that screen also at the high 1920x1080 ?

I had the same issue with my FW. What you need to do is go into task scheduler. Drop down the menus and go into the Sony menu. In there something called Vaio wallpaper keeps running itself. Just disable that. you should be good to go.
