I am in the middle of restoring my friends VGN-c290 for her. She wanted it restored to day one. The issue is that the copy of the restore cds on the hidden partition failed. then we ordered the restore dvds and i got errors like failed to load customer image and return 15. I can not figure out what is going on here.

Several people have reported similar problems with no solution. It seems that some Sony Recovery DVDs just don't work from the start.

I didnt send it in, I had a copy of vista laying around so i used that. I was wondering if there is a way to get just the applications off the CD. I am not concerned about vista cause I have my own copy. I just would like to be able to use some of this free software that is on the restore CDs

i have almost the same problem...
im trying to partition my cr220e but it had that little 7GB partition for reset stuff, we tried changing it and the whole computer crashed and we had to reinstall everything from the sony website.

now some things like the buttons for the volume over the keyboard aren't working right.

    anything i can do?

The buttons should work if you installed all the drivers from oldest to newest.

Just to be safe, I made 3 copies on 3 different brands of DVD's on my FZ285 with BD burner. Good thing - only one worked when I tried a restore.

I got errors with TDK +R and Verbatim -R.

    Fujifilm +R worked.

Wouldn't surprise me if Sony is being excessive with DRM and is doing cute things when creating the disc sets. That could also explain why creating a recovery set takes forever.

What point could Sony possibly have in using DRM on creating recovery disks? Especially since they give you the ability to make as many copies as you like? You're jousting at windmills on this point.

I'm not jousting at anything. Just making a casual observation - nothing more than that.
