The s380 is exactly whjat I have been waiting for -- I was suprised how many options sonystyle has for direct from sony configuration
1) so far the s380 I only see direct from sony, is it worth waiting for resllers to get it or is price similar with direct from sony
2) they are offering this with 1.6, 1.73, 1.86, 2.0, 2.13 processors (more choice than usual!) any estimates with the new sonomas or the performace advantages with each step? what do you recommend as the price performance sweet spot ?
3) do the vais use a standard memory chip that is user acessible? (if I get 1 512 can I add a second myself)? for general non gaming use I have used 512 always in past notebooks-- who thinks 1GB is worth the $
thanks!

1) Maybe, but you won't be able to configure it elsewhere.
2) 1.6 or 1.73. You really won't benefit from the faster CPUs, especially for the price.
3) I think 1GB is worth it, but only after a faster HDD has been added. I don't know for certain on this model, but you should be able to add RAM without issue.

memory chip are 172 pin micro dimms
and 1gb is worth it. looking to add on that extra 512 to my sony s360 myself and go for the dvd burner as well if you are looking to get options. The only place that is selling the replacement internal drive for the sony is sony and they are princg it at $400 US

are all the HDD 5400 RPM drives? they have up to 100 gb available I saw a post somewhere but the specs don't say at all
it appears that the CPU prices jump a lot after 1.73 so that is probably the way to go -
HDDs are 4200 RPM unless specified otherwise. The only 7200 RPM one you'll see is 60GB.

Do not confuse the Sonoma S380 with regular Dothan S360 or S270. Sony really should take a bigger number leap like they did with the A series, jumping directly to A600/A690 for Sonoma laptops.
The Sonoma VAIO S380 uses DDR2 400 MHz 200-pin SO-DIMM RAM, not the DDR 333 MHz 172-pin MicroDIMM used in S360. S380 also uses SATA 5400 RPM HDD as the only option available for all configurations, so yes those HDDs are all 5400 RPM. The S270 uses 4200 RPM HDD unless otherwise noted (the only option available in SonyStyle is an 80 GB 5400 RPM HDD). -
the s380 looks good...
where's the 10% off sonystyle coupon?! what's up with tying the screen choice to wirless modules? can't get XBRITE without getting a/b/g?!!
ordering from sony charges tax and shipping... double ouch...
it took sony from s150 to s360(s360 being the case), to make a retail configuration that's powerful enough for the price offered...
but can't beat the portability and screen niceness...
i guess the wait continue...
maybe in the mean time acer will update 3200 with sonoma... asus w3v looks nice too though...
s380 configuration and purchase q's
