I'm planning on getting the s460, and currently have a heavy 15" SVGA laptop. I am attracted to the s460 due to its weight (go to library a lot), size, and the fact that it has almost all the features of a desktop replactment. However I was wondering how difficult it is to adjust to the screen size. Has anyone gone from a 15+" to a 13.3" wide screen? I plan on using the laptop for everything (web, games, spreadsheets, statistical analysis). Thanks for your help in advance.

going from 15 to 13 wide screen is really not big of a deal. I doubt that you'll notice the jump between the two sizes. The Sony screen is just beautiful and if you don't mind the heat issues, the S460 is an excellent buy. Probably the fastest notebook for it's size.

If you don't want to jump donw 2" quite that fast, check out the Asus W3v. W3v Standerd Spec's
It has a 14" wide screen, and a very stylish design. I too was considering the Sony S series for months, but I was nervous that the screen would be too small. So I never boguht one. Then I saw this $200 rebate for an Asus W3v With is starting at $1,900 minus the $200 rebate it's a steal I think.

Yeah, but I won't think going from a 13.3" XGA widescreen to a 14" XGA widescreen will make a difference. Plus Amazon is offers $250 in rebates and no tax, bring the ending price of the s460 to $1475, which is pretty good. Thanks for your help though.

I went from 17" to the S460's 13.3. I must admit, the first time i used the s460 for an extended period, my eyes did feel very tired. But after about 2 days, i got completely used to it and my eyes feel fine now even after using it for 4-5 hours straight. I use the S460 with my desktop interchangeably and my eyes feel fine.
btw, the sony s460 and the asus w3v were my final two candidates. the difference between 14" and 13.3" screens was not significant to me. also, sony is a brand i trust, while, asus laptops are brand new to the industry. not to mention you can't run to Circuit City and look at it before you buy. and i wasn't comfortable with buying from unknown small boutiques online.
