    Hello
I'm looking around for a sony vaio A type laptop.
My doubt in this is what kind of screensize i should take. I defently don't wan't 17 inch because it's to expansive and i think to big to carry arround.
So it will be 15 or 15.4(widescreen)inch. I will be using the laptop for my school (designing website's, userinterface's and some programming) and for regular surfing/mailing.
So what would U think is best for that[?]
    Is widescreen realy better[?]
I would like to hear your thougts and comments.
    Thanks in advance

It's not just the 17"WUXGA of the VGN-A series(I have the VGN-A190), it's the 1920x1200 native resolution! I have two full size browsers open on the same screen at the same time. You can also have two FULL pages of whatever you like open at any given time.[ ;)]

A perfect website or interface is one that can be used by the hightest possible amount of people, which is always a bit of a problem: The greatest problem about (web)interfaces is that every user has a different screen-resolution.

An interface that's optimized for 1280x1024 is totally unviewable for 800x600, while an interface that's still viewable with a resolution of 800x600 is extremely small on a 1900x1200 display.

And believe me, even though it's pretty sad, there are still many people who, due to some weird reason, use 800x600, there are even enough people who use 800x600 on 17" or larger TFTs, which isn't only sad but already stupid. If you make interfaces for larrrge amounts of users, then you'd make your interfaces viewable at 800x600 (eBay has a width of less than 800 [|)]), if you don't, then 1024x768 is pretty much the standard.

It's only my personal opinion, but I don't think that an extremely high resolution is useful for web-/ interfacedesigning at all. For programming it's different, because the higher the resolution, the more windows can be shown on your desktop. But even 17" doesn't sound like much for a resolution of 1900x1200, the fonts would be extremely small and hard to read. I've read of many people who - like me - get dizzy and headaches when using too high resolutions, but there are also enough people who totally love it.

I spent a long time at the store (actually 4 stores; many hours) before deciding on the a290 with the 1920x1200 res. to make sure the screen resolution would be ok. Having spent the last 4 days working continuously; (outlook email/programming/web/excel) confirms that I made the right choice. You sit closer to the notebook screen than a desktop and the font size comes out to be about the same for me.

But, it really is a personal preference. I looked at a lot of screens and the a290 xbrite screens were by far the best. The qosmio and new fujitsu screens were just as bright, but with a dissappointing 1440x900 resolution at 17" was just not nearly enough res.
