Sorry, but my Z820, which I was considering to sell and get the " new " Z is no longer for sale. I thoroughly considered the " drawbacks " and compromises I felt with the " new " Z. I went ahead and upgraded my Z820 with 8GB of RAM and swapped the internal DVD drive with a new Blu-ray drive. I now have what I feel is the perfect Z notebook.

As for buying a " last gen " Z, for those in the U.S.A. I would seriously consider checking Sony Style's Clearance section. In your case, I'm not sure of the Sony Style in the London region. There are many " refurbished " models and a few new models as well. The prices for the refubs are actually quite good, considering they are coming with specs such as a P9700 processor, 8GB of RAM in some cases, and either the standard DVD drive or the Blu-ray drive for a couple hundred more.

I have a Sony Z 540 with about 2 years left on the accidental damage warranty on it if you are insterested - it has Win 7 x64 enterprise on it. Feel free PM me if you want more specs.

Does this forum have a classifieds section for selling your used equipment?

Could someone kindly explain to me what the benefit of getting an "old" Z vs. say a new Thinkpad Edge would be? (serious question, not trolling)

For example, if you look at the Z's for sale on the Canadian website on the previous page vs. a new Edge it would appear that the edge would be faster with the new processor, has the same ram, and has a bigger HDD. I am sure there are reasons that the Z would be worth an extra $400 or so, but was hoping someone could enlighten me as to what that is. I realize that the Z would be much more stylish, and perhaps a bit lighter.

    Thanks!

The 13" Edge has a ultra-low voltage cpu which has substantially less performance than the Z's processor.
The 14" Edge has a better cpu but it's also bigger and has less battery life than the Z.
And one of the most important features of the Z is a switchable hybrid graphics solution with Intels 4500 series for battery life and a dedicated Nvidia 9300M GS for 3d performance which none of the Edge's have.

Ah! Thank you. I just assumed that the Edge's would be faster because they are quite a bit newer. I don't know much about this stuff. I realize the Z is a "premium" notebook. So it's more stylish, lighter and probably made of better materials. I was just curious about what would justify the extra cost.

If anyone else has more insight I would be happy to hear it.

    Hello Manson,

I just posted some pictures in the classifieds section. It is the VGN-Z540.
