hey guys almost a fellow owner of a z here , but i have several questions ..

    1. Does the Z comes with a extra internal slot for a wwan card from verizon?
    2. If so can i add my existing Dell 5720 or my verzion usb 720 internal card to it? This is extremely important for me.. Please if anyone can open up there Z where the wifi card is it and see if there a slot for it it would be great! or open up whereever it would be lol. Kinda use to my xps 1330 wwan is next to the wlan
    3. I was playing with the sr at fry's couple of days back , and notice it is extremely poorly made .. not sure if it was display but it felt like the sr was gonna break if i drop it lol.. how does the Z feels like in term of durability , solid ness ? lol .
    4. and how long does the battery typically last on it? My old dell xps 1330 gets around 3 hours , but on like lowest setting ever..

and btw i'm considering the z540 1,699 one from portableone. Since i already have a 2.5 320gb wd scropio blue hd laying around from my xps 1330 and 2gbs ram stick everywhere lol.

Please reply as soon as yah can guys! .. Because i might just buy another 1330 , since it was one of the best laptop i ever own ... next to the sz that my friend sat on =/ .

so can anyone answer the question about the wwan card? Please. will some just open up the bottom to see if there a extra slot for wwan? like some users said above it comes with only sprint.. anyway to take it out and swap it with a dell 5720 verzion evdo card? let me know thanks guys

i might just go to sonystyle and buy one retail lol. anyone knows how fast does portableone ships?
    Thanks in advance!

    3. The SR is not poorly made, it feels really sturdy to me for being made of plastic and magnesium. The display probably had no battery in it, so it was really light. Expect the Z with its battery to be around how light the SR is without its battery. The Z has carbon fiber chassis I believe, so its stronger than the SR but it will still feel light. Nevertheless, any laptop you drop, I don't care if its gold, copper, carbon fiber, plastic, wrapped in bubble wrap... it will still break due to sheer impact. If the case isn't affected, then the internal hardware will be messed up.

    4. The Z from what I heard should get at least 5+ hours battery life on standard battery in stamina mode.

I can't really answer your question about swapping the WWAN cards.

But the Z series uses DDR3 and you probably cannot reuse your current RAM.

and a couple of more question is that..

    1. the hardrive in the Z is a 2.5 dim right? and how would i go about swapping out the hardrives?
    2. Does vista gives the Z overall greater battery life ? rather then xp? cause i do notice on my xps vista gives out 4-5 hours and xp gives out barely 3 screezing real tight . on a 6 cell..

    Thanks in advance

    1. It doesn't have an extra slot.

    3. Most laptops will break if you drop them! They just feel light because of the magnesium alloy and carbon fibre in the Z.

Are you sure the laptops aren't unlocked?
I can't see how they can justify locking them as you wouldn't get a reduction for signing a wireless contract.

lol, tell that to my thinkpad haha. I would say that the only exception to this rule are thinkpads. I have owned a few between work and personal and they are built like tanks.

I totally agree. I hope my Z survives the way my Thinkpads have in the past! :)

I think it depends how and onto what you drop them too.
The destructive part wouldbe the deceleration upon impact.
Thus, the lower the height, the better.
Secondly, what does your laptop hit? Is it tiles, a thick carpet?
A thick carpet will act as a cushion and minimize/reduce the concequences, tiles will ensure the decelerations is instantanious and pieces are put under great strain.
Even a thin normal carpet would reduce the consequences.

Also, your most likely to damage "movin parts" thus your harddrive.

I once smashed (yes smashed!) a Medion laptop onto a windowsill, while running, it continued to work fine until it devloped a smart failure, hdd replaced, one year later another hdd failure... (god knows why)

So I'm pretty sure, dropping your thinkpad onto tiles wil brake it.
To minimize damge the Sony laptops have got the G-sensor to detect acceleration, so I hope that works.
