    Hi folks,

I got my new laptop sony vaio P11Z9E last friday. I was really happy! A couple of hours later I discovered, that pressing on the left side of causes the mouse pointer to drag top right the all the time. I went to the shop and tested 3 other models - it was the same!! Ok, I could live with that. In the evening I discoverd dust between the display and the plastic display cover. I thougt ok, I just have to live with that... The next day I went to Starbucks and wantet to read news on the net. Now I saw, that there was even more dust! I got mad! Ok, so I read some news and met friends and so on. Next day: sunday: Pulled the thing out of my pocket and was really angry: half of the display was really full of fine dust, I coud not believe that! I turned it on and the mous buttons didnt work! ** so I smashed this damn thing against the floor!!! I'm so angry! 1049,- Euro and then suchh a really low quality! On the display unit was stamped "FOXCONN"?! ?? my first gen sony vaio p was made in Japan and was without any faults till the day I sold it, and the second gen in China? Super LOW quality! I will never buy a Sony made in China again. I currently have a Vaio Z11Z9E - flawless.

So, save your money. I'm really pissed.

So, you had dust in the screen and the mouse buttons broke so you smashed it?

    You have issues.

I'm sorry, but all second gen P models have that issue. A replacement would never solve the dust and mouse trackstick problems... Its a design flaw.

Sony has now two management to deal with the next-gen VAIO design. One is Sony Japanese guru's themselves and the other team handles the value line of vaio's which probably handled by foxxcon. Which also probably explains the poor material of choice, and built quality.

thanks for this valuable information. Can you tell me, which series are still made or will be made in japan?

I have already saved money a few months. I wanted the first gen VGN P39VL/Q but it was not available any more - I was too late. I also din't found one on ebay. So the logical step was the sucessor model. That was the first time I hated a product so much that I smashed it against the floor. I know, I should have returned it. It will never happen to me again... *promise*

    Thanks 2 all

you can ebay the thing out and make some cash...oh well.
    :/

otasim: so far, only VAIO Z and VAIO X are those with stamp of "Made in Japan" unless you CTO the thing in US, then its another story.

Sony Z, F, X are the only ones I am aware of which is handled by Sony Japan team. Whether is made in US or Japan, the engineering is given great detail.

sony F is made in japan?
but it don't look like one...

    if you ask me why...
vaio z have everything inside... GT330M underclocked, i7 620, blu ray drive, full hd 96%adobe rgb... only 1.43kg size 13.1"

    vaio f have everything inside GT330M(why not gts360), i7 840, blu ray, full hd 100%adobe rgb... 16.4 inch 2.9kg?

    i prefer asus g51jh or g53jw which have gts360 or gtx460...

I have a VAIO P 2nd gen (P11S1E) with the same problem. I have disabled the point stick and now I'm ok with the little touch pad. Someone found a solution?

no, there is no solution found yet. The first gen was really good. but this one... even my vaio p had intel atom Z560 and graphic Controller Hub US15X, I could not stand the poor build quality. I think, Sony has to put production and design team back to japan.

Now I have the Toshiba libretto W100-10D. the touchscreen keyboard is of course not as good as the hardware keyboard of the sony p but I got used to it.

Does somebody know about the 3rd gen? any rumours?

    good luck :)

otasim, you da man! :) haha
You should send the pictures with your story to Sony and see if they will send you replacement?
Well, I recently placed an order for Z and they promised to deliver it with 2 day shipping but I didn't get it in 2 days. So I called and b1tched at them and they got me $100 off discount. lol (and 2 day shipping was free as well, lol)

Who knows, you should give em hell and after little b1tching..they might give you something too!

Otasim, just send this report+pictures to Sony, I'd love to see their reaction ;)

I wouldn't generalize - my Vaio is made in China and the quality is good :) The only issue was the CD bezel which was loose. That's all.
