It's only the lid that has the carbon fiber weave, the rest is just like any other premium model.

Keep in mind all premium models have carbon fiber lids, it's just the x91,81 that you can see the actual weave in.

I agree the keyboard hasn't changed much, at least they fixed the space bar issue(for the most part) that was present in the first/second series. If the noise bothers you, get a keyboard protector. I have one, and it subsequently decreases the clicky sound the keys make.

Is the lid of the SZ780 thinner than the lid of the standard SZ model? If it is, then I think all the specification sheets of the Premium SZ will have the wrong thickness (should be .92"-1.3" thick instead of 1"-1.5").

Judging by the image from Sonystyle, the SZ740 has a thicker lid, thus the dimensions on the spec sheet is correct. SZ780's lid looks thinner. Is there a typo on the thickness of the premium SZ's?

You're correct, the premium models have a special LED back light screen which allows for a thinner case.

their specs are always a bit off... so back to topic, has anyone seen a 780 in person yet? Is it identical to 650?

    Thanks,

I just ordered one of the SZ780 CTO's for $1491 + tax/shipping. I upgraded the processor from the T8100 2.1Ghz to to the T8300 2.4Ghz for $50. I ordered over the phone and the Sonystyle rep gave me $100 off with a coupon he had. He said I should receive it around 2/20 or sooner.

My shipment date was just updated to be 2/4. Man, I should have ordered over the phone and gone for $100 off. That's a great price.

If you order a CTO WITHOUT Sprint or other wireless broadband, is the external antenna not on the notebook?

Yes, there is no antenna when you don't choose the WWAN option. Keep in mind it is removable so if you don't need it now you might later. It pulls right out, all you have to do is purchase a little cap to cover the hole.

Oh wow--I also went through the 7% cashback link for FatWallet so I need to maintain the same order, will they give it to me on the current order? I guess, no harm in trying (sorry haven't looked at this thread lately).

Edit: I would love to have the internal WWAN but I wouldn't be able to use the EVDO here. I wish they offered an option with AT&T.

Same here. I would have left the States by then, so it's a no go for me. Too bad. Maybe I will have to pick up a TZ locally. I will leave the order in place until the middle of the month before canceling it though.

This is from Sony. I don't know what P1's stock is like. I should drop an email to Ivan. Aha, why didn't I think of this. No tax or shipping. I paid a bit more although I have FatWallet cashback.

Edit: Does P1 charge your card immediately or do they do it upon shipping?

I own a SZ6, very satisfied but the EU-version lacks draft-N wireless. Would draft-N wireless improve my network file transfers speeds noticeably? (If we dont have Vistas speeds in mind)? I have a draft-N D-Link router.

That depends. Are you transferring large files? If so then yes.

If you are just cruising the internet you won't notice much of a difference. The only thing I have really noticed is signal strength has vastly improved, and I can download faster.

It may be a "correction" but it costs more money than it has for the past 2 weeks or so.

Regardless, if it had a keyboard like a Thinkpad does, I would order one, but I don't feel that I can accurately type on an SZ.

    1. No, the vista cd is not included, you must burn a recovery disk from your preinstalled OS.

    2. Drivers not included, drivers can be downloaded from sony's website though...

    3. Extended warranty... would really depend on whether they cover the screen... also depends on how technically savvy you are.

The x40 and above models being premium is no longer true. Sony introduced the 730 which is a premium LED, carbon fiber model but low end performance wise. Accidental warranty does cover your screen, I bought a 3 year onsite/accidental extended plan from a member on this forum and I think it was a great choice especially since they technician comes to me.

Yes, no, no and yes, no jks jks...But I mean how would u recover ur Windows Vista? Also, Im gonna assume it comes with a cd-key at least if anything so I can download a copy of Vista and then use that cd-key instead of recovering it, in which I hope you briefly tell me how recovering Vista is done? Note" I am tech savvy but to a certain point. I see also that u cant take out the Hard drive bay? and that u need to open the laptop to do that?? If true, is that the same case with RAM?? Lastly, if I get the $100 more large capacity battary, does it also come with standard battary or just large battary? and does the battary make the laptop look all bulky and what not cuz I really need portability Thanks a lot! Cheers!!
