    Hi,
im having murderous problems with my sound card not being recognised by the newly installed XPprofessional on my VGN-N130G and have tried to install the drivers etc, but it still wont work. if you need more information on this here are the links to two differnet forums that i've posted on:
    http://www.techsupportforum.com/hardware-support/sound-cards/176774-drivers-where.html#post1046616
    http://forums.techguy.org/windows-nt-2000-xp/613207-xp-sp2-sound-problems-laptop-3.html#post5046752

anyway, i got a virus and then was forced to format the drive. now i have installed XP professional as opposed to the original XP media centre edition which i had on my laptop when i brought it, and i believe myself that the sound card isn't being recognised due to the fact that i now have XP professional on my laptop. now i have two drives on my laptop, C has the recovery information and D is the normal drive. so i was wondering if the sony control centre program can create a recovery disk and if i can use this recovery disk to reinstall XP media centre edition then my computer can be back to normal? if not how can i download the control centre and how can i get this sound card to work even if i've tried all the drivers for it including different laptop type drivers and even deleteing all the drivers i have for my current hardware and then reinstalling them?

anyway, most of the progress i've had so far can be read in the forum links above.

thanks and please, please someone help :)

On the FZ series it is possible to boot to the recovery partition and use it directly to restore the machine back to its "out of box" state. You MIGHT be able to do so on your model as well. On the FZ you do this by powering of and then during a reboot hitting the F10 key. This cases the bootloader to boot from the recovery partition.

You realize of course this will WIPE THE DRIVE CLEAN and install EVERYTHING. You will loose ALL data and get back ALL bloatware.

BTW (I am betting your issue is with the fact that the OS is running from the D: drive and not the C: drive. I have had all manner of problems when trying to do that in the past. Too many installer packages ASSUME the OS is on the C: drive. It's like trying to swim up stream!

If all you are wanting to do is resolve your sound problem, you won't need to use the recovery disc or reinstall Windows. You are simply missing the UAA bus driver for HD audio, which needs to be installed before installing the audio driver (that's why you had received that error message when trying to install the audio driver). You can download the UAA bus driver hotfix and an updated audio driver for your Realtek audio device here (although the driver that was already provided here is newer and should also work with your device after applying the UAA hotfix).

The other missing drivers in your device manager can be downloaded here and here.

Also, if you haven't done so already, you should update your Windows to SP2 and install all the important hotfixes. You can use Microsoft Update, AutoPatcher, or WindizUpdate to do that.

I don't know any way to change the drive letter. The only way I know that works is to reinstall the OS. But the problem is even if you do that the OS will be back on the C: drive. The installer is seeing the recovery partition for some reason. And I am surprised though that the recovery partiton is showing up at all. What did you do to make it "visible". Normally it is set to be hidden (at least it is on the FZ series).

What is the way you are supposed to boot from the partiton to restore your machine? Did you make a Recovery DVD or CD set when you first got the machine? Maybe you can restore from that.

Like I said before you really should figure out WHY the OS drive is showing up as D: If you don't it could make for other headaches down the road.

    Hi
    Can someone help me....PLEASE.
I cannot burn cds from itunes. Everytime I try it says to me that "software and burner not found". How do I go about installing them and why are they not there or is it that itunes is not recognising them?:
