I need help....im going from a desktop (a very crappy one) to a laptop and im not sure what to get. The one i have my eye on is the sony pcgk13. I hear its not great for games but the only games i own are The Sims. All i really would be doing is surfing the internet, word processing, downloading music....just your regular student stuff.Im only using 12g on my computer now, its only got 176mb of ram so really anything i get will be better. Do you think this would be a good laptop for me? And if not do you have any better suggestions?

I agree that it's a very good "basic" notebook. My only concern would be around battery life, but that may not be a huge deal for you. Also, what's the budget? There may be a few more suggestions for you based on that.
