im looking into purchasing a sony s660b from staples canada, but the reviews i've read so far have all had one thing in common. overheating resulting in motherboard failures. i really am fond of this laptop, but if this really is an issue that cannot be avoided, i will sadly look elsewhere. if anyone has any experience with the long term (6months+) quality of this notebook, or if there is some sort of bios upgrade that has almost completely solved the overheating issue, it would be greatly appreciated.

anyone....?
please? -
I think most people here are SZ or FE/J owners and therefore can't speak to the durability of that model (SZ's are also fairly new)
regard my particular model (SZ150P), it's not bad, but there are creaks here and there and the optical drive does not seem very sturdy. The keyboard is also a bit flimsy. However, all these gripes plus others can be found in the general SZ review: http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=2998&review=Sony+SZ180 -
I'm sure there are a few S series owners out there... The S series lasted quite a while before being replaced by the SZ series, so I'm sure they worked out the bugs in the system design by the time they got up to the SZ660.

s660 is actually the last of the s series here in canada. it's still being produced and sold here although i know it's been discontinued in the states for a while.

I had an S2VP which is a UK model S series. It was great, no issues for me. It was only because the SZ came along and my job pay for the machines that I upgraded.

Although I am currently using an SZ18 I also have a S470P that was bought in the States slightly more than a year ago. This is now being used by my wife, and it runs great, no issues except a (fairly) noisy fan, which is a common. Prior to this she was using an S28GP for more than 1 1/2 years with no problems.
sony s series long term quality
