    40 seconds on battery, 35 seconds on AC power (that's because I force the CPU to work at 100% on AC, and only 5-50% on battery)

    I didn't check it I just timed it with a stopwatch lol. Is there even an feature that checks boot speed in VAIO Care? Never came across it.

    How do you time it?

    I think the best way is from cold off -> load an internet page.

    If you got the 256GB SSD from non-North America Z, then it takes a while longer cuz all the Z's have to wait for the RAID drivers/controllers to POST... and that adds to the boot time but it's worth it for the extra bonus speed we get.

    Avg boot time, as listed in VAIO Care = 30sec for my VAIO F w/ Intel X25-M 80GB SSD and i7-720 CPU.

    23 seconds from bios flash screen to desktop. Vairous tweeks found on this site used, such as disabling windows logo splash screen and external monitor check.

    Plus turning off non essensial services helps.

    woah woah woah woah, 23 seconds @.@? You didn't swap out the ODD for an intel SSD right?

    How do you disable the windows logo and external monitor check? I've gone through the SSD tweaks thread and found no info there.

    Not to sure if its allowed to post links to external website so I've inboxed ya. I'd also reccomend you take a look at the thread on the forum about replacing the drive in a TZ to a SSD

    What method did you use to measure your boot time? This is very important as different methods yield different times. This thread has been using VAIO Care's measuring method.

    Timed with stopwatch. Other general tweaks as follows.

    Run msconfig

    1.Uncheck GUI Boot which will stop the colorful opening ceremonies of the software and save you precious seconds at start up as will these others;
    2.Reduce the Delay time to 3 seconds;
    3.Choose Advanced options and select 2 for the number of processors if you are fortunate to have such; and
    4.Click on OK followed by Apply and then agree to restart your computer.

    Run services.msc

    Some services that start automatically, by default, that can be disabled are:

    Computer Browser
    Distributed Link Tracking Client
    IKE and AuthIP IP Keying Modules
    Offline Files
    Remote Registry
    Tablet PC Input Service (If you are not using a tablet)
    Windows Error Reporting

    Out of curiosity, why does everyone get so hung up on boot time? I reboot my VAIO at most maybe once per week (usually after the Tuesday windows updates). Normally I just sleep or hibernate it. Seems that spending hours to speed up boot time by 10 seconds is a little weird, no?

    I didn't do it to increase boot times, I just wanted to remove non essential apps out of memory.

    Also... if you have a SSD, why do you need superfetch? or system restore points? My Z13 bloatware install took up 50% of my hard drive space. A few tweaks and uninstalls, got me 10GB back

    Write cache is also a biggie.. not needed for SSD and no need to wait for the device to become available (Thats my own opinion and may not be valid for all cases)

    Can you provide the time listed in VAIO Care's One Click Care tool, please? It seem the standard in this thread. Reporting from other tools can be drastically different, even with a stopwatch. And there's no point in comparing boot times if the tool of measuring is not the same.

    Some reboot much more frequently than that. Others are just obsessed with shaving every possible millisecond. It may be irrational, but many things are. It may also be indicative of other processes and behaviors on the machine like program load times and what nots. Again, super tiny, but obsessible anyway. :p

    Allow me to ask this question a different way. Are there ongoing operating speed benefits to these tweaks, or are do they solely speed boot times? When I see some 90 processes running ir makes me feel certain there are lots of inefficiencies that must be effecting either operating speed, energy efficiency, heat or all of the above.

    That said, I do agree that the obsession with boot times is, well, just that. When I owned an MBA 13 for a month, the immediate-on feature when from WOW, to gee-whiz, to yeah, ok in fairly short order. I too usually have my machine on sleep and it comes back up in a matter of seconds, and clearly sub-optimized, it boots cold in less than 30 seconds, so these are not-broke/don't-fix situations.

    More than happy to post the boot times from Vaio care, but two issues. Can't seem to find the boot times anywhere in the vaio care version 6.4 thats on my system, and each time I run it, it tells me that there is an udate for vaio care.

    Done several installs and re-boot trying to update vaio care.
