Any source that writes on Li-Ion battery acknowledges that such battery cannot retain it's power level for indefinite time (except for 0%, of course). There are no 2 ways about this fact.

Your system performance being more responsive under AC supply is normal. This is the time that the processor gives its full power when the need arises. You'll also notice that the cooling fan is constantly ON as the processor now works harder and generates more heat.

On battery, the processor underclocks so as to help conserve battery energy. Smart technology.

Yea you are right, fan still on, no matter what I try to do, change power plans etc... still on... Anyway now I know it's normal...
For the battery I'm trying to empty it... It's at 50% now...
I'll let it charge overnight and post results tomorrow...

sony batteries will drop very fast during 90-100% period. If i booted up my sony with the battery below 90%, it doesn't take 9-10%. Last time before i cleared all the bloatware, i lost 10% only to bootup and now after i removed all the bloatware with semi-clean install, i lost only 6-7% to bootup on 90-100% battery charge level. Try putting your battery to 100% and plug out the power for a while and you'll see the battery will drop faster while on 100%...

Depending on what time you cut off the AC supply tomorrow, you may still be unable to see any difference.

I would speculate that your battery did in fact drop in level over the past 4 days for about 2% (just for example only) and by the time your SZ boot up via AC, those few miniutes were enough time for your battery to charge back those 2%; therefore creating the false impression that the battery has been 80% without any drop.

Let's give the benefit of doubt that the battery is assumed to be healthy (but only just showing wrong level) and hence will only lose 1% over 3 days; how are you then able to tell any difference even by the end of tomorrow ? (You'll still see the full 100% for at least 2 days over.)

I don't own SZ but I was told by Sony staff that the SZ does not have a battery manager that is similiar to ThinkVantage (in ThinkPad) which allows custom setting of battery charge threshold.

As a result, if the battery care feature can stop the charge at 80% you'll need to disable this feature to allow 100% charge. After that, enable the battery care feature so that no more charging will take place; and then observe how long it'll take the battery to drop 1%.

I'll do that tomorrow and send back my results...

    So here I am again...
A full charge then a boot up : battery dropped to 97%...
I suspect the battery to drop faster during the first 20% then slower...
Anyway, I'll someday try to let it over night with battery plugged in and see what happens...

You're now seeing the truth of your battery after the re-calibration. Good for you.

A battery can die after 1.5 to 2 yrs of constant use. You'd a reasonably good battery, since your's died after 2 yrs of use.
