I think there are a number of Z1 owners who have this issue, myself included. It does seem to be a driver issue but I never managed to solve it despite trying a number of things. Mine was generally OK with just a bluetooth mouse but when I added a second bluetooth device (a keyboard) they started to drop out all the time.

In the end I admitted defeat and bought a Belkin USB bluetooth adapter for around £6 and this has been rock solid ever since.

If I remember rightly, there was a BIOS update that dealt with a bluetooth issue, but I could be wrong. You might want to double-check that you have the latest BIOS installed.

I have done all sorts of experiments with bluetooth, trying to get the best performance for input devices and A2DP, and just getting everything to play nice, I have had some success, I can't find some of my older posts about the subject... but I have found a few things

    Here are some links

    try this firmware upgrade
Sony VPCZ112GX Notebook Broadcom Bluetooth Firmware Update for Windows 7 64-bit

you may want to just try upgrading the drivers

Ah, that was it: it was a firmware update, not a BIOS update. Sorry - my mistake.

I have the same problem and my bluetooth mouse gets disconnected and has to be quick reinstalled (via add bluetooth device) a few times a week.

ComputerCowboy I can download some bluetooth firmware update and the driver from Sony directly... Do you still recommend to use it from the links you posted...?

Ashers, please let us know which one you applied and if it made things stable?

    Thanks

Wherever possible, use the firmware update for the exact model of the hardware in your laptop. The link in the post by CC is for VPCZ112GX. We have no idea which model of laptop you have; you are in the Sony section of the forum, so we assume that you have a VAIO, but we don't know. If you could put your hardware details in your signature, it will be good for everyone.

The firmware update is from Sony, the model doesn't matter because they all have the same broadcom chip.

The Broadcom update is way better than the drivers from Sony because it is up to date. I've installed both of these on my system with now problems.

You might want to look at the hardware ID for the the Broadcom chip to see if it even needs an update
basically if your hardwareid is USB\VID_0489&PID_E00F&REV_0596
you don't need to bother updating

here is the official link from sony http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu-download.pl?mdl=VPCZ112GX&upd_id=5894&os_group_id=6

my hardwareID is whatever cowboy posted so i guess i dont need a firmware update

but its been 2-3 days since updating the driver directly from broadcom and no issues so far

The Broadcom update does help a LOT!
I still had issues with Broadcom though, I like the Intel 6230 better, but that one has other issues. I can't win. I am working on getting two Bluetooth receivers to work on the same system at the same time.
