hi,
can anybody elaborate on sound quality i.e. build in speakers and sound via headphone out? i do listen to a lot of music while working, and sound quality is somewhat important to me. any information, insight would be greatly appreciated.

The speakers on the Z are definitely on the poor end of the spectrum. I also find that the sound isn't fabulous through headphones either. But the addition of the free noise-canceling headphones in the package is a nice touch that helps mitigate the sting of the poor sound quality somewhat.
NBR member mfpreach started a thread regarding the poor sound quality which sparked some discussion. I recommend you check it out: http://forum.notebookreview.com/sony/492399-z11-speaker-upgrade.html. -

It's ok through headphones depending on the sensitivity/power requirements of your headphones.
The speakers are awful, period. Really my only design complaint about the notebook.
I use bluetooth headphones and it's pretty good that way as well (assuming the BT compression doesn't drive you mad). -
thanks, for the heads-up guys. exactly what I was looking for.
