    sony vaio connection to modem problem

    hey everybody...i have a used sony vaio laptop vgn-tx67op....my cousin who was using it was connected to a wireless router....i am not...im connected directly to cable modem...for some reason it says it established a network connecion...but when i try to go online with ie or aol it will not connect....it is very weird because i have a pc here also, and it works fine with the same connection...i wanted to know if there is a setting that i could fix...because i know the laptop definetely works since my cousin has had no problems with it, and my pc goes right online with the modem....could somebody please help me out....thanks alot
