yesterday i bought Sony vaio FS690 at bestbuy canada.
i bought it because its flyer said battery last for 5.5 hours. (this is the main
reason i bought this because last year time i went to asia very often for
10 hours flights. this will be a good entertainment for me. )

but after charging 2 hours this battery last for close to 2 hours. ( for DVD
    MOVIE)

then i went to sony.ca to check up and its descripton said it lasts for 5 hours.
this is the description: My one model no is : VGPBPS2A

Sony's VGPBPS2 Standard Battery for VAIO® FS Series and S Series Notebooks
    # Extended battery life up to 5 hours when travelling
    # Power: 53.28Wh (11.1V/4800mAh)
    # Weight: 0.69 lbs.

is there problem with this battery?
do you think to charge it overnight can make it longer power?

    any information will be appreciated

I'm not clear. Did you get the standard battery, or the double capacity version? It's kind of confusing because if you by from the Sony web site, they are giving the double capacity version for a limited time. But if you buy from the store, I assume you get the standard battery.

Anyway, the 5.5 hours they quote is for the double capacity battery. So you should get 1/2 that with the standard battery. I know you just got 2 hrs, but that sounds about right for watching a DVD the whole time, and a std battery. If you just surfed the net, you probably get around 3 hrs.

Manufacturers always exaggerate their battery times. The only way you'll ever reach 5 hours is if you dim the screen all the way down and do nothing but word processing or something that doesn't require much of the CPU at all.

HI. thank for your information. correction : it is fs 620

i just used the recalibrating the battery method. make the battery completely drained. and recharged it completely. and got 2 hours and 12 mins.
    - just for dvd playing solely
    - turned the brightness to 5/10
    - turned off the speaker (assume i will wear headphone at the airport)
    - turned off wireless adapter.

this looks a little bit better than 1 and 1/2 hrs.

i think i got a good deal from bestbuy vancouver grand opening.

    this is the spec:
Intel Pentium M Processor 730, 1.6GHz, with Centrino Technology, 512MB RAM, 80GB Hard Drive, 15.4-inch WXGA TFT Display, 8X DVD / 24X10X24 CD-RW Combo Drive, Windows XP Home

the flyer price is CAD 1,699.00
less cad 300.00 store opening discount.
less cad 500.00 ( very cool i got this lucky draw . in fact, without this additional 500.00 , i wont buy sony. too expensive. )
    = cad 899.00
+ cad 350.00 3 years warranty. (peace of mind)

picture quality is very impressive. when i watched the screen from left, right, or other angles, the screen brightness won't look darker.
for dvd movie, very good picture.

the downside is the weight. too heavy for the power adapter. i think if
everything (laptop , battery ,power adapter and carrying bag ) packed all together, weight will be more than 10 lb.

conclusion : good picture and short battery life - i will pick good picture and
watched my dvd at hotel room with power plug-in.

picture quality is sharp and detailed.
but the picture size at screen is reduced to about 7 x 8''
i think this is resolution setting.??

I have a Sony Vaio FS620, and the battery doesn't last long either. Try running it through some charge cycles. That should help a little bit.
