Any word on what it actually fixes? If its a heat issue, I'm betting they're trying to underclock your system and hope you don't notice.

I have done the bios update and tbh my gpu seems to be running hotter than usual (used to idle at 40 Celsius, now 50 Celsius) :s but i have also just done a fresh install of windows so something else could be causing it.

    On the graphics card currently:
    core clock - 475 mhz
    shader clock - 1045 mhz
    memory clock - 680 mhz.

Not sure if these have changed since the bios update.

I never accept recalls anymore, after a car recall a few years ago -- due to some idiots dropping the Mercury Mountaineer rear windows on their head and then suing Ford, the company issued a recall. Their fix was to weld the opening mechanism to prevent the window from ever opening.

So I wouldn't be at all surprised if the fix here is to reduce the speed to avoid overheating.

Hm I got one of these recalls but I haven't noticed any problems. Is it worth it to send it in?

Just do a bios update. I did it and my fan seems to be running more often. Not necessarily a bad thing imo.

Sony have put some info on their site, all they recommend is to do a bios update.

Maybe somebofy from here could do a GPU and CPU test before bios updating and after, so we can really see if they are just downclocking some stuff, or maybe just making fan go on more often.

So did Vaio update prompt anybody to do the firmware update, or did you download it manually from the sony website.

I entered my serial number on the vaio support site http://support.vaio.sony.eu/computing/vaio/index.aspx
It told me that my unit was affected and I downloaded the update.
It didn't show as update on (a working) Vaio Update.
The updates page http://support.vaio.sony.eu/computing/vaio/downloads/updates/index.aspx?m=VPCF11C5E&l=en_GB will tell you that this update is not available through Vaio update.
