    hi all,
I bought my sony vaio sz38 laptop lastyear.I have upgraded my ram from 1gig to 2gig today. My doubt is that the new ram is of 667mhz and I am not sure how much mhz speed my existing one had.
1)How can I check the mhz compatibility of both the ram slots?
2)If one is of 533mhz and the other is of 667mhz, will there be any issues with the working of my laptop?
    thanks and regards,
    Aman....

You can use a program called CPU-Z to check what the current frequency of the RAM is. If it does turn out to be 533 MHz, thats not a problem. If you have already purchased 667 MHz RAM and installed it, the RAM will be running at 533 MHz, provided you didn't remove the original RAM module.

    Hi Zero,
Thanks alot for the reply.I have not removed the original one.Its there and thats how I am getting 2gb as the total physical ram shown in my laptop.Ok so the new 667mhz will be downgraded to 533(if the original one is of that) and will be made compatible.I have just been a told by a friend of mine that system throws FATAL ERROR in this situation when there is a mismatchin the rams.I am not sure. Can you please clarify this doubt also for me?I shall really appreciate.
    Thanks and best regards

    Hi Zero,
I have just installed and ran cpuz.To my surprise(or my ignorance may be) I got the timing of the RAM as 266.7mhz.I am not sure what does that mean?It showed me the original ram as 2048mb only. What should I interpret from it?
    Thanks and best regards,
    Aman....

Unless the motherboard design changed, Sony still runs SZ RAM at 533MHz even if you have 667 memory. It was that way in v1, and I doubt it changed. It's a Sony limitation.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DDR2_SDRAM should help you.
