Hi I'm new to this forum, so hope this is in the right place... :)
I want to buy a sony vaio tx I have read reviews on the internet, but wondered if anyone had one for some feedback???

I need a lightweight laptop, but it is important that it has good battery power for long stays away. The TX has 7 1/2 hour battery power which seems pretty good compared to others.
    Thanks

Yeah, the TX is a very good ultra portable. You can also consider the Fujitsu P7120, which is very similar.

the fujitsu is good, but IMO the sony is a tad slimmer, and sleeker..
can't go wrong with both though.. but vaiogets my pick

I own a P7120 and prefer it to the TX, but I didn't slam the TX or discourage him from getting it, I'm not sure what your issue with my post is Herbie.

Herbie, I think it's you that needs to take a look, I have 7000+ posts, start at #1 and work your way up. You'll see that I'm positive on many other machines as well. You'll also see that I don't think Fujitsu does everything as well as they could.

Future TX buyers should read this. Just loook at that size of the MB and case construction detail shown by the Tom's. No other review sites have resources to do what Toms can! TX is expensive but you really can see what you are paying for!

I would not get a TX just becaue of the the screen size. The screen is just too small and the processor is slower than most notebooks. In addition, the price is way too much. I know its veyr sleek but get a 14 inch notebook and buy an extra battery.

I would suggest getting the asus W5. It has a 12 inch screen and has a 1.86 processor, 512 ram, and a dvdrw, and camera. It sells for 1799 at proportable.com. With the optional 9 cell battery, your looking at 6-7 hours of battery life.

Lets look at the differences between the TX and W5.

TX: 1.2, 512 mb ram, 11 inch screen, dvdrq, good quality, at least $2200
W5: 1.86, 512 mb ram, 12 inch screen, web camera, dvdrw, extremely good quality, $1799

The w5 is more powerful, has a larger screen, and its at least 400 dollars cheaper!!!!!!

Yes but the W5 suffers from terrible standard battery life, has less screen resolution and quality, and bigger/heavier too.

Like Brian said, the P7020 is a worthy competitor to the TX since the P7020 has a fingerprint reader, TPM module, comparable battery life, Atheros super AG (802.11a/b/g wireless protocol instead of b/g only), swappable drive bay, and costs less. However, the screen size and resolution is a tad smaller.

the Asus isn't even in the same weight category...
to stuff and minimise things to put inside notebooks so puny like the TX and P series require alot of $$. Of course when you talk about value for money, in the first place one shouldn't look at the Sony as it's one of the worst value for money machine. But on the other hand it has other things to offer like minituarisation, sleekness, aesthetics, screen quality, design etc

I too like the W5, but as noted, it's not a competitor to the TX, largely due to weight.

You know, if Sony were to integrate a Verizon modem instead of Cingular, I'd make the switch.

if you are a hungry student then TX is not a pc for you. But if you are a busy professional or a rich student on the go then TX is a perfect machine for you.

I am neither rich nor hungry somewhere in between! thanks for all your responses.
Still haven't quite decided as the vaio tx is v.pricey but v.sexy - i would rather pay more for what i want then end up with a brick!! :D
