Hello,
First off I am sorry if this has been addressed before in other forums. I read threw a few pinned topics and other information and still am stumped.
I just bought this computer not too long ago and its all I can afford right now, so I am trying to make this work for the best.
My biggest problems
LCD flickers non-stop and fades in and out and emits a odd sound fizzing and will have windows opened and burns them into the back ground but they fade.
I do not have the hidden restore software on the system no where not in the bios screen or in control panel or anything.
My mouse seem not to work correctly no matter what I do I cant set it back to a simple right click and left click operation like a normal mouse.
The laptop wont recognize a external monitor ever its very sad.
I have chatted with sony support on the live web chat and didn't get any solutions. They told me to download drivers and install them all to fix every problem, but that never fixed a thing.
I dont seem to have most programs that are supposed to be on this system such as web cam nothing there at all to open it up.
I also can connect to my home internet via Ethernet cable. Yes I called my isp and sony to ask for assistance nothing helped. Every thing would ping and the sony would pick up the connection, but would not allow me to view pages. I have re installed the driver for the net and ect.. didnt work. I have the 100. pro chip now.
My questions
Is there a certain order to install the drivers for best results?
Am I screwed on my screen?
The software Cd for a full factory restore is it still made?
Am I gonna have to spend more then this system is worth to fix it?
Sorry if my English is bad my first language is Chinese.

So my guess here is that you don't have the recovery discs and is out of warranty. If I'm not wrong, I believe you can contact Sony for the recovery discs for $10 to ship them out to you. If not, try to restore by having windows or burrow your friends windows just to see if this can fix the problem by restoring it and download all the proper drivers from Sony website. If this doesn't work, I think your out luck my friend because Sony will charge you an arm and a leg to get anything fixed out of warranty especially when it is a hardware issue.

Correct I am out of warranty and I do not have the recovery disc
. so I can use another system restore cd for the sony?
I really would like to keep this laptop and get it working. Thanks for the information. -
Hi I am sorry to hear about your troubles. It seems that Sony does not sell teh recovery CDs anymore. Your best bet may be to clean install XP. The drivers are available at the Sony website ( http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu-list.pl?mdl=VGNFE550G) or search on Google. The “system components” should be installed first. As for the display it may be a problem with the video driver and the clean install should solve that. Otherwise, the LCD is on its way out and it is probably going to be a costly repair. You may be better off selling this one for parts, and buying a new one.

sorry but what is a clean install?

I meant reformatting the hard drive, and re-installing the operating system. You will need to install the drivers afterwards to make the computer fully functional.

You may try to reinstall from an original Windows Disk.
