    i bought a sony vaio fs115s second hand from ebay , the hdd had been taken out so i replaced it with a spare hdd i had already , now the fun starts i can turn on the power and it all seems fine works great i managed to get xp up and running the problem i have is when i have to restart it it will not get past the first sony screen , i have found that if i leave the battery out and leave it for an hour then start it just off mains power it will start fine run fine all as it should but everytime i come to restart same problem , can anyone give me any ideas how to cure it pls

    Was that a clean installation of Windows XP, or was it already on the spare hdd?

    yes it was a clean installation , the thing was as you prolly know xp copies the files and does a restart from which it didnt untill i left it for another hour then it installed and another hour later it booted into xp
